I am passionate about language and love words - my mission is to help you improve your writing at every level. I also love literature and history and really enjoy analysing and discussing books and sources with my students. I am also great with words and will help you improve the quality of your essay writing.
After completing a history degree at Cambridge university, I went into a career in politics and public affairs, running successful national campaigns leading to legislative change, and becoming well known for my written and spoken communication skills. Having worked for over 15 years in high-profile positions in a range of sectors, including government organisations, charities, trade unions and law firms, as well as freelance, I gave up working in London following the birth of my daughter. Thus started my love affair with education.
My first job in a primary school as a teaching assistant developed my knowledge and expertise in teaching literacy and supporting SEN students on a one to-one basis. My passion, in particular for English and History, was highly valued at the school, and I also provided extra tuition for year 6 students who were struggling to catch up after Covid.
I moved to work in secondary and special schools, where I mainly focussed on working with students studying English language and literature. I completed training across a wide range of programmes to support learning, and also became skilled at helping students to analyse language, understand set texts and respond to essay questions.
Since September 2025, I have been delivering private tutoring, where I use my love of words and (unusually) grammar to support individual students in their studies and help them improve the quality of their essays.
I am experienced in supporting diverse needs, having worked with students with autism, ADHD, learning difficulties or English as a second language, or who are hearing impaired. I am creative, innovative and patient, and I am familiar with most set texts and history disciplines, although I am highly adaptable and able to pick up any new areas as necessary. Overall, my approach is to respond to the needs of each individual student and use my enthusiasm and expertise to help them do their best and succeed.
I provide a bespoke service, providing support around exactly what you need, whether that’s catching up on missed work, going over weak points or practising exam papers. My sessions are very organic and encourage students to think for themselves as well as providing hints and tips for success. I can support English or history across all key stages or simply help improve your writing across a range of disciplines. I am also trained in supporting basic literacy, phonics, grammar and reading.
