(50% A* 30% A and 20% B) all improving by at least a grade or more with tutoring. All got into first choice universities. My undergraduates have achieved minimum 2:1s. I tutоr A'level, history, Classical Civilisation, Politics, Law and English Literature. I also support undergraduates in law., politics and history. Undergraduate students have improved by 10-15% in marks. I wаsn't аlwаys а teаcher аnd cаme tо it lаter in life, fifteen years ago, аfter а very successful cаreer аs а strаtegic prоject mаnаger with top FMCG companies. One of my areas of interest is to support pupils at both ends of the spectrum, those who have learning challenges such as ASD, ADHD, dyslexia and dyspraxia and those who are identified as 'able and gifted'. I also obtain excellent results from pupils who are considered 'average' which quite frankly, is not a label I would use with any student! All students have talent and it is my job to unlock their potential. As I have extensive academic and professional qualifications, I am able to offer a wide range of expertise and subject support. When not tutoring, I spend time with my family , walking our collie/springer, gardening, cooking and travelling when time allows!
My tutees consistently achieve transformative results. (please see reviews below). I currently teach students online from all over the world and the UK and so have extensive experience of different approaches and exam boards. When not tutoring, I lecture part-time for the OU in law and support and assess a tutor group of 60 students. I am also a Magistrate for the Family Court. I taught history in a private senior school for three and a half years in Oxfordshire before moving to the Staffordshire/Shropshire borders twelve years ago. I worked as a supply teacher and then started tutoring full time eleven years ago. I am a current and experienced A'level examiner and senior GCSE exаminer in histоry. I am also regularly reappointed to the history 'remark' panel for for A'Levels and GCSEs for each sitting.
Essay writing, planning, source analysis and evaluation are my areas of expertise in history and therefore I can provide the tools required to excel at Edexcel, AQA CIE and OCR papers. I have a First Class degree in history.
For English, I can help with essay writing, comprehension, poetry and prose appreciation covering classics, Chaucer, Shakespeare, Marlowe, Webster, 19th and 20th century literature and contemporary poetry. I have taught AQA, CIE, OCR, Edexcel and WJEC specs.
As a law lecturer and teacher, I can assist students in how to approach problem questions and substantive evaluative questions. My areas of undergraduate law that I specialise in are: family, tort, criminal, company and employment and public law.
I hаve Masters and Batchelor's degrees in lаw, a First Class degree in history.
All my tutoring is online, which has several advantages, the most important being the student's time is not wasted in travelling to and from places, and they are learning from an environment that they are comfortable in. I have a 'can do' attitude to teaching, and like to focus on building confidence in pupils in their ability, as from my experience as a teacher, if a student is confident, suddenly the things they found difficult become surmountable. I find working towards solving a problem or answering a question focuses the session and means we reach a conclusion at the end of our time together. I plan activities carefully so that at the end the tutee can leave with a feeling of achievement. I set tasks between sessions as all pupils need to learn how to work on their own and then we mark the work set together so that any mistakes can be immediately addressed and also I can reward good effort at the same time. For students who have learning challenges, I use a variety of proven methods which allow them to compete on a level playing field with other students not facing the same challenges. I also have experience of accessing help and assessment for any tutees who may be struggling, where the underlying reason may not have been identified through normal channels. Tutoring should be a postive learning experience and I hope that pupils can use it as a foundation not just in the subject they are being tutored for, but can apply some of the techniques to all their learning.
