Please note I'm known as Louise!
I graduated in 1991 from Southampton University with a degree in Mathematics and completed my PGCE there in 1995. As well as tutoring students individually I teach GCSE maths in local adult education classes. I'm a GCSE examiner so fully understand the requirements of the new 9-1 GCSE exams at both foundation and higher tier level. I love the subject and enjoy the challenge of solving maths problems, both with students and on my own!
I have worked in the education sector in various capacities throughout my working life. I first taught GCSE to adults in 2000 and also tutored children individually in secondary school and after school maths clubs. The GCSE students I teach consistently achieve good results and it is always hugely satisfying when students attain the grade they need to move on.
I am methodical in my approach, tuning into the way each student thinks and guiding them on in their own way. Confidence is key in tackling maths and I create a positive working environment by being friendly and fun which puts students at ease. I help students approach the maths from different angles until they find the one that works for them. It's great when a concept "clicks" with a student, at which point I'm often not needed anymore! I can adapt my approach when teaching students with learning difficulties and have produced an extensive catalogue of materials over the years to cater for different learning styles.
I look forward to hearing from anyone I can help with this fabulous subject!
