I am a fully qualified Science teacher with a specialism in Biology. I am passionate about helping others achieve their academic goals in a supportive and intellectually stimulating environment.
Education
I studied Biomaterials Science at the University of Birmingham. Later, I pursued a Master's in Infection and Immunity at the University of Leicester for which I was awarded the best student prize. I completed my PGCE from the University of Warwick and undertook a master's level project on misconceptions in science.
Collectively, I have 17 years of experience tutoring face to face and online. Additionally, I have worked in schools and colleges across the West Midlands for the past 9 years. I have taught GCSE Science, BTEC Applied Science, A-level Biology and A-level Chemistry, covering the OCR, AQA and Edexcel specifications. In my position as the Head of Department I coordinated and delivered study skills sessions which included note taking and memory techniques to boost the performance of my students. I have been monitored by OCR for the practical endorsement for which I received positive feedback. Over the years I have helped students achieve or exceed their target grade. Three of the students I tutored this academic year have progressed from an E grade and below to an A grade in their school mocks.
I have a holistic approach to teaching ensuring students make rapid progress. My aim is to give my students the skills and tools to become confident, independent and reflective learners. Many students fail to perform in examinations to their best ability , despite putting in many hours of revise. My lessons focus on providing effective exam techniques and the key points required by the examination board. Each lesson is tailored entirely to the individual learners' requirements.
