*** NOW ACCEPTING STUDENTS FOR THE 2024/25 ACADEMIC YEAR ***
Please get in touch ASAP while there is still availability. I am normally fully booked for the year by September.

Hi, I'm Luke. I'm an approachable and relatable tutor, with a teaching style that puts the needs and interests of my students first. I like to make lessons fun and enjoyable, whilst also taking the time to build relationships with each of the young people I interact with.

I have been a tutor for over a decade, and have a 100% pass success rate, with extensive experience teaching GCSE maths and science to a huge variety of students with differing needs. I have a particular passion for helping those with mental health issues, having first hand experience in processing and managing complex emotions, whilst also succeeding in an academic environment. I have had many students over the years with different degrees of mental difficulties, from severe anxiety and depression, to developmental disorders like ASD and ADHD. I hold a Level 2 TQUK certificate in Child and Adolescent Mental Health, and use this knowledge combined with my own experience to find the best educational approach for each individual.

As an active conservation scientist I have a lot to bring to a tutoring position. I have worked all over the world, in interesting places with interesting animals and environments; from gibbons in Thailand to killer whales in Iceland. This gives me the unique ability to show you the real-world applications of your studies, which is essential in fully understanding the point and purpose of learning at GCSE and A-level.

I have worked with students from a variety of background and ages, and have developed whole syllabuses of education material for primary school programs, having taught in both one-on-one and classroom scenarios. Combined with this experience, I maintain a very personable and compassionate approach to all interactions, finding the delicate balance between relatability and authority that I feel creates a very formative and personal teaching system, tailored directly to you.

Tutoring Experience

I have extensive experience teaching Maths, Biology, Chemistry and Physics at GCSE/iGCSE level, and Biology at A-level to private as well as government supported students. I have been a tutor for over a decade, and have a 100% pass success rate.

I have worked as an environmental educator, providing environmental and ecology education to classes of school children from nursery age upwards. As a conservation biologist at various sites across the world, I teach field skills and provide biology workshops to a wide range of audiences; from schools to groups of adults. I founded and orchestrated an initiative allowing university students to teach environmental education to local primary schools in partnership with the Jane Goodall Institute. I created a syllabus of active workshops which teach environmentalism and conservation science as an add-on to the current curriculum. I presented these workshops to classes of primary school children, and orchestrated a team of teaching volunteers.

Tutoring Approach

My teaching style is relaxed. I like to work at an easy and informative pace, in order to develop a complete and thorough understanding of subjects. We will go through topics that you are finding difficult, building accurate and interesting notes as we go, that you can later use in revision. We will combine this with past paper attempts and reviews, to give you the exam technique required to get the highest possible grade.

I teach in person and online. I make the online experience as fun and interactive as possible, using many tools such as online collaborative whiteboards to store our notes and practice questions together. Many students prefer online lessons due to the comfort of being in a safe space, without a teacher looming over them as they work. I have found that many students are more open about their misgivings and misunderstandings, and learn much better over time in this way.

I am passionate, friendly and approachable. If you're missing that personal connection that often helps us all in understanding, then I am the tutor for you.
