I have been a teacher since 2008, but began private tutoring in 2011 while taking time to raise my own family. I've enjoyed it a great deal and it has been incredibly rewarding seeing students develop their skills and achieve the results they wanted. One to one tuition has given me the opportunity to really make a difference in children's learning, while allowing me the time to look after my own too. I am friendly and approachable with a repertoire of skills to assist pupils at any level.
Private tutoring since 2011
My students over the years have ranged from top set, high achievers to those who have lost confidence in their mathematical ability and fallen behind as a consequence. Although the majority of my experience is with KS3 and KS4, I have also helped a number of year 6 students with their end of KS2 SATs tests (including the level 6 paper) and assisted with their transition in to secondary school.
I am currently teaching primary, secondary and post 16 students, with pupils following both the Edexcel (standard and iGCSE), OCR and AQA (GCSE and Further Mathematics) curriculum's. I also have students who will be sitting the new style GCSEs in 2017 and I have begun teaching the revised curriculum for these exams.
One to one tuition has allowed me the time to develop lots of my own resources, including revision material, visual aids and confidence building activities. I have gained a diverse repertoire of skills to assist learning at all levels, along with a variety of tried and tested lessons to keep students engaged.
I have kept myself up to date with the National Curriculum, the syllabuses of the above exam boards and current teaching pedagogy.
Hobart High School classroom teacher 11-16 year olds
As a full time teacher I gained experience teaching a broad range of students with various abilities and learning styles including those with SEN. I enjoyed developing resources to inspire and captivate pupils in mathematics.
In addition to my teaching responsibilities I helped to organise extra curricular activities, assisted with the gifted & talented curriculum and i was involved with the Primary feeder school improvement program.
Supply teaching at Wymondham High School
Following my PGCE training I was asked to remain at Wymondham High in the interim period before my permanent teaching contract commenced.
Training at North Walsham High School and Wymondham High School
I try to work in support of the pupil's school lessons, concentrating on challenging topics and areas where they lack confidence. I enjoy bringing a diverse range of materials and teaching methods to engage my students and help them to retain what they learn.
Many parents have commented on my friendliness and clear explanations. I take great pride in being able to effectively communicate mathematical concepts, then seeing students' comprehension grow alongside their enjoyment of the subject.
