Are you finding Maths a struggle? Do you feel you have gaps in your learning that need to be filled in? Or do you just need a bit of extra help to boost your performance by a grade or two? When you have the right support, Maths is easier than you think. As a qualified and experienced Maths teacher, I can help you to develop your confidence and skills in order to get the results you need in your GCSE, A-level or other Level 1/2/3 Maths qualification (Year 9 upwards).
I find it very rewarding when I see a “penny drop” – when I am able to help a student who has been struggling with a particular concept to understand it and realise that, actually, it's not as hard as they thought.
Having taught Maths in a variety of schools and colleges since 2003, going up to A-level, since 2017 I have been focusing on private tuition.
I have experience of teaching A-level (AQA and Edexcel) and GCSE (Edexcel, AQA and OCR), and also the Maths element of the Level 3 BTEC in Engineering, as well as a variety of other Level 2 qualifications (Edexcel IGCSE, Functional Maths, Adult Numeracy, Edexcel Award in Number & Measure, QTS Skills Test).
My exam marking experience, with two different boards and from Foundation GCSE up to A-level, means that I have a very good understanding of how answers need to be presented to obtain maximum marks.
At present all my teaching is online. I use Zoom for the video conferencing and BitPaper for the interactive whiteboard I hope to return to also offering face-to-face - at my home in Hall Green, Birmingham - as an option once there is no longer a need for Covid precautions.
Most of my teaching is on a 1-to-1 basis but if you have a group of 2-4 students who are all working at a similar level and would like a regular joint lesson then that can be arranged (rates available on request).
I'm happy to try to coordinate with a school scheme of work if you can obtain a copy for me, but usually the student is able to tell me what areas they want to focus on initially and then we take it from there. I produce an individual plan for each 1-to-1 student - typically updated every 6 weeks or so - but it's always flexible if the student decides that they want to work on a particular topic, perhaps something that they've been struggling with at school that week. Obviously with a group the structure has to be a little more rigid, but the pace is still tailored to the level of the individuals being taught.
I offer an optional free initial 15-minute consultation with both tutee and parent present, where we discuss the student's particular needs and I show you the software. This site is funded by the client paying to access the tutor's contact details, so the free consultation will go some way towards offsetting that initial cost.
After one full trial lesson on a PAYG basis, I ask for monthly payment in advance by bank transfer or standing order. I also have a 48-hour cancellation policy.
Where tuition is normally face-to-face, I will offer an online lesson (using Zoom and Bitpaper) if a student is occasionally unable to travel to me, for example due to an infectious illness or icy weather conditions.
