As a fully qualified science teacher I currently work as assistant head of science for a leading North London secondary school, having previously worked in secondary schools as a Science teacher across London. I specialise in biology, chemistry and physics at A-level. I have a particular passion for science and enjoy boosting the confidence of learners who want to pursue further studies in the sciences. I hope to expand my experience with extra teaching and aim to study further research science in London. I am a native English speaker but also speak some Dutch!
Teaching truly runs in my family, with both my sister and mother teaching in schools in London. I share this passion for teaching and have tutored for over 10 years. Although mainstream secondary school is my most experienced area, during my degree I worked part time in a Pupil Referral Unit as a Learning Support Assistant. Working in such a challenging environment has given me the necessary experience to work with high achieving teenagers as well as those with learning difficulties. Along with this I carried out one to one peer study assistance at my university to help the students with lower ability in maths and sciences. I have a PGCE in science teaching from UCL Institute of Education. I have been tutoring and teaching young people science and maths for over 15 years in London.
I promote a good work ethic and encourage the student to not only pass exams but develop a true enjoyment of science, maths or geography. It is important that the student has confidence in their abilities, which often can hold bright and capable students back. Attending an inner London state school made me aware of the difficulties and pressures some students face whilst trying to achieve their best academically. I received extra tuition for my GCSE's and found it to be invaluable. I have a relaxed but structured approach to teaching with a particular passion for science and maths. My method of teaching is guaranteed to be a success as long as the student is willing to put a bit of hard work in, as I will do!
