Hello everyone, my name is Magda!
I'm a medical student at the University of Leeds currently taking a year out to get a degree in Global Public Health at Queen Mary University of London. I am enthusiastic about a variety of subjects and love tutoring because it allows me to share my passion with others. I hope to help students achieve their goals and strive for success! School can sometimes be challenging for all pupils, which is why I aim to impart my students with skills of perseverance and endurance, as well as a comprehensive knowledge of revision techniques which they can use throughout their time in education.
My academic achievements include:
- eight 9s and an 8 at GCSE, including maths, English, biology, chemistry, physics, French, history and geography
- AS Business Studies
- A* Religious Studies and IT GSCE
- 42 points International Baccalaureate (776 in History, Biology and Chemistry at higher level, and 776 in French, Maths and English at standard level)
I speak English and Italian fluently, and have spent ten years learning French.
I have been tutoring students at the GCSE level since I was in secondary school myself was in secondary school, especially in biology and maths. I have experience in helping students understand challenging concepts, revise content, tackle exam questions, structure essays and much more.
I have also held numerous revision sessions for students as part of my university's tutoring scheme for medical students, and have experience in guiding students through the university application process, especially for medical school.
I am passionate about exploring different teaching methods. There is no one right way to teach, just as there is no one right way to learn. It is important for me to spend time with my students understanding not only what their difficulties are, but why they struggle with specific things and how best they learn. As such, my lesson plans vary significantly depending on the needs of my students.
My approach to teaching tends to be twofold. Firstly, I want to ensure that my students have a sufficient grasp of the required content. Secondly, I push my students to apply their knowledge through the use of practise questions. Practise makes perfect, and the application of knowledge through spaced repetition revision techniques is the key to success in many subjects!
Further to this, I use a range of materials to teach. Two examples include, using drawings to explore concepts in biology, and using audios for listening practise in French.
I also find it useful to discuss long-term revision techniques with my students. A big part of my time in education has been spent understanding revision techniques and learning which methods are best suited to specific subjects and exam types. Through this, I aim to help students understand their personal revision styles.
