Home Tuition for Biology in Great Missenden

I have successfully tutored A level Biology students for many years and I am particulary interested in helping A level students who are planning a career in medicine and related fields. Both my children are doctors so I have been through the process of medical applications as a parent as well as a teacher. I organise and present seminars on the UCAT exam. These include CPD courses for teachers and workshops for students in local schools. I have authored several textbooks in conjunction with Hodder and Stoughton. These include an AQA A Level Workbook and AQA GCSE Practical Workbook . I was co-author of Dynamic Learning On-Line Resources for Hodder and Stoughton.
I am the current Biology editor (and author) for Biofactsheets (published by Curriculum Press).

Tutoring Experience

With thirty years experience as a teacher and then a department head in a leading grammar school, I have taught Biology to A level/IB level and lower school sciences, particularly Chemistry, to GCSE/ KS4. I set up a very successful medical society at school which helped many students gain places at medical schools, including Oxbridge. This included inviting in visiting speakers, organising work experience, assisting with UCAS applications and preparing students for medical interviews. As a lay interviewer for UCL medical school, I have a good insight into the medical admissions process.

Tutoring Approach

My lessons are tailor-made for an individual student's needs. A level Biology specifications are so big that planning is essential so that all topics are covered and any weaknesses can be identified and tackled. My modus operandi is to ensure that the more complex topics (which students find most challengin) are fully understood before working through exemplar exam papers to gain experience in applying the knowlege gained. Throughout the learning process we look for links between different parts of the specification in order to prepare for the synoptic components.
I am a very positive person and try to instil confidence in my students.
