Hola! My name is Maria. I was born in Madrid and lived there for 22 years, so my native language is Spanish. I have a passion for languages in general and for Spanish in particular. I love teaching Spanish because I find language learning fun and fulfilling, and I believe it helps us open our minds to the rest of the world.

Tutoring Experience

I was an English teacher in Spain before I moved to the UK. Here, I have taught Spanish in several schools, ranging from state comprehensive schools to private schools. I have also been tutoring languages for more than ten years.
This means that I have worked with students of all ages with different motivations for learning the language, such as strengthening what they learned at school, preparing for GCSEs, or simply learning for the fun of it.

Tutoring Approach

I love to make my lessons enjoyable by including cultural elements and keeping things simple and clear. I think it is important to train all aspects of language learning, including listening, writing, reading and speaking. These skills, combined with the right vocabulary learning and grammar understanding, are what will allow you to communicate in Spanish.
The tone of the lessons will vary depending on your goals, since my main aim is to tailor my lessons and my approach to the needs of each student. Because of my experience, I will be able to guide you if you are preparing for an examination or certificate, but I will also be able to tune into your interests and engage in a more relaxed manner if you are just doing this for fun. If you appreciate a traditional approach or if you'd rather focus on your speaking skills, that can also be done!
