I am a fully qualified, experienced primary school teacher who is able to build strong relationships with the children I work with in order to help them achieve their best. As well as supporting children academically, I have a keen interest in their emotional wellbeing and have completed a number of courses to enhance my understanding and better support those children who struggle in a classroom environment.
I have a PGCE with QTS from Leeds Trinity University (2016), an MA in English Literature (Pass with Merit) from the University of Leeds (2013) and a BA in English Literature (First Class Honours) from Newcastle University in 2008.
I have 7 years experience working in an outstanding primary school in Leeds. Throughout my career, I have been based in all key stages at different points, delivering engaging, stimulating lessons which both support and challenge pupils of varying abilities. As well as being a class based teacher, I've also had the opportunity to run Maths group interventions and one-to-one interventions for children who needed extra support. I love seeing the emotional and academic growth of the children I work with and find it extremely rewarding.
To achieve their best, children need to feel safe and secure. I am friendly, personable and my approach is to establish the value of a growth mindset and how mistakes should be seen as learning opportunities. It is so important that children feel comfortable and at ease in order for learning to take place. Through knowing the child and establishing a positive relationship with them, I can then draw from a wealth of teaching strategies to support their learning style. Building up their confidence and enthusiasm for a subject is the ultimate goal, making academic progress much more achievable.
