Having completed my History Degree at Greenwich University I spent a number of years working at the Imperial War Museum, HMS Belfast Museum Ship and the National Army Museum before I decided to train as a dedicated Secondary History Teacher at Roehampton University. I worked as a History teacher for 2 years in London, then a teacher of Humanities for a further 9 whilst also working as a member of SLT. I then worked as an Assistant Headteacher of Inclusion for 2 years and currently as a Head of Education at a specialist provision for students with high functioning autism. I recently led the school through a Good Ofsted Inspection. In my spare time I enjoy spending time swimming, cycling, gardening and spending time with my family on the beach or in the forest. I have further completed an MA in Inclusion and an MA in Educational Leadership as well as having achieved a level 7 qualification in psychometric testing.
I have previously worked as a full time Teacher of History for two years at a school where I was the only dedicated History teacher, I taught KS3, KS4 and KS5 with a large amount of my teaching time dedicated towards teaching GCSE and A Level, I have taught OCR 'Modern World' GCSE, Edexcel 'The Experience of Warfare' at AS level and Edexcel 'Superpower relations' at A level but I am more than able to create and teach a scheme of work for more or less any History course. I also worked as a one to one tutor for English and for 9 years worked as an examiner for Edexcel for Paper 1 and Paper 2. I then worked at a dedicated Humanities College as a teacher of Humanities with large qouta of my teaching being dedicated towards Religious Education as well as History. After 9 years I worked as an Assistant Headteacher of Inclusion teaching Btecs in Travel and Tourism and Animal Care and currently work as a Head of Education overseeing leadership of a specialist provision.
I prefer to use methods whereby the student is involved in engaging interactive learning, I use a lot of these methods in my classes and have found both uptake of the subject and results rise substantially because of it. Having worked as an examiner I also realise the importance of essay writing skills and make sure that students are fully aware about how to structure their work appropriatly and what factors an examiner is looking for in order to award a 9 to 5.
