My name's Matthew, and I have been tutoring in English for ten years. A graduate of the University of Cambridge, I specialise in English Literature and Language, essay writing skills, close reading, and university admissions preparation. I combine depth of experience with a warm, personal approach to tutoring; and not only do my students see dramatic improvements in their English grades, but they usually find themselves enjoying the subject a lot more as well. I feel passionate about working with students with a diverse range of abilities and backgrounds, from those who really struggle with English, to those who need additional guidance to really excel.
As well as my experience of tutoring English Language and Literature, I am also a qualified teacher of English as a second language (ESL), and I have experience teaching English to groups of both native speakers and ESL students. All of my students have felt encouraged by my warm, thorough approach to tutoring.
I love the open, informal atmosphere that tutoring allows. My students are always free to ask questions or demonstrate their understanding, and it's great for me to see your developing ability. I add to my deep love for and knowledge of literature an attention to exam strategy. Key issues such as essay structuring and comprehension are taught alongside the required texts, which aid my students not only in English, but in all aspects of academic work.
