Hello! My name is Matt and I'm a recent graduate of Bristol University, having studied Politics and International Relations (BSc). My academic interests revolve around Politics, English, History and Drama having received 2 A*s and 2 As in these at A-level. Outside of academic work, have a keen interest in music and writing, having written for blogs and magazines at university.
I'm passionate about Politics, and am taking a masters degree at UCL in September, with the end goal of entering the civil service. Ultimately, I'm passionate about my subjects, and good at getting others passionate about them! I'm a good listener, with a confident, engaging and enthusiastic manner, ensuring an effective tutoring experience.
I have done a couple of placements which have given me a strong footing for tutoring. Before university, I worked on a school project to teach English in Romania. This involved teaching large class sizes, and working one-to-one on specific topics the kids found tricky. Included using worksheets, interactive games, team exercises, role play and copybook exercises to make the process as engaging as possible.
In addition, I also taught English to college children in Jharkhand, India with VSO ICS, for 3 months. These were large class sizes, with little base English knowledge. Using basic conversation techniques, I gradually improved the base English standard, giving them a good handle of the language by the time I left.
I prioritise an understanding and respectful approach to my student's learning, allowing them feel comfortable to tackle whatever issue they present. I'm an easygoing individual that offers a learning experience that is tailored to the student, with the ability to push students, or to slow down and explain thoroughly, accordingly. The student's needs should be kept as a focal point to the tutoring exercises, as this will ultimately lead to the best results. I encourage parents to get in contact with me if there are any specific needs you might have with regards to the tutoring.
