Hello! My name is Megan and currently I am working as an Industrial PhD student, which means I am carrying out scientific research on behalf of a company, whilst also gaining a PhD from Heriot-Watt University, which I expect to complete in 2025. Aside from work, I like to spend time hiking, kayaking and enjoying the Scottish countryside!
I have experience tutoring students online during the pandemic at both national 5 and higher level and have developed many techniques to ensure a student receives the same level of connection by engaging with online learning platforms during my sessions. I also believe my many years at university has taught me a broad range of skills and different ways of approaching the same problems and I would love to pass this information on to other students. I also have studied a range of subjects throughout university, covering chemistry, biology, physics and maths, meaning I would be happy and able to assist students with their learning across many STEM subjects. I also have experience tutoring students with additional learning requirements.
My teaching approach aims to ensure the student fully understands the ‘why’ behind the answer, and not just the mechanisms / equations to get the answer, as I think this is an important skill that can be taken forward to university level across all STEM disciplines.
