Hi, I'm Melisa. I am passionate about helping young people achieve their academic potential and make informed decisions. I have extensive experience working with youth in various capacities, including as a youth counsellor and mentor, and have supported individuals from diverse backgrounds, including those facing socio-economic challenges. Currently, I serve as the Head of Psychology and Sociology at my local Sixth Form.
I have over 10 years of rich and diverse teaching experience across various roles and educational settings. My journey began as a youth counsellor and sports coach for football and basketball, where I developed strong mentoring and leadership skills. As a reading mentor and teaching assistant, I supported students, including those with special educational needs such as social, emotional, and mental health challenges, autism, and other learning disabilities. In further education, I taught Health and Social Care, English, and Functional Skills English to mature students, managed courses, and led the new T Level in Health Adult Nursing pathway.
Currently, I teach Psychology and Sociology at A-Level and serve as Head of Department, responsible for curriculum development and departmental oversight. I have also taught Psychology, Sociology, Citizenship, Business, Sport, Public Services, and Travel and Tourism at GCSE level. This broad experience, accumulated over a decade, has equipped me with a versatile teaching skill set and the ability to adapt to different learning environments, fostering student success and well-being.
Through my love for learning and continuous professional development, I strive to apply evidence-based, student-centered, and adaptive methods to my tutoring. I aim to create an engaging and supportive learning environment, encouraging students to think critically and connect theoretical knowledge to real-world applications.
I balance challenging my students with providing the necessary support, ensuring they feel motivated and guided towards success. By utilising a variety of teaching methods tailored to individual learning styles, I help each student achieve their full potential.
