Hello! I'm Menka, a trainee doctor and someone who has always been keen to teach, learn and pass both things on.
Recent times have made both teaching and learning incredibly challenging, but I believe with the right tutor it is possible!
Outside of medicine and teaching, my hobbies include running, baking... and just simply relaxing.
I have been a tutor since I was at University (for almost 10 years!), mostly teaching the 11+ and Basic Sciences. Initially working on word of mouth, I built a small clientele and focused on getting children through tough exams even when they felt they couldn't.
Doctors are permanent learners and teachers, which is why I believe we make good tutors... we are always doing both! I am involved in exam preparation for postgraduate exams in anaesthesia regularly over online teaching, as well as 'bedside' teaching. I have consistently received good feedback with the various teaching styles I have delivered.
I strongly believe that all children have different approaches and attitudes to learning, and therefore deserve an individualised method of teaching.
I spend time assessing their baseline and their interests/ strong points, and help them gain confidence by building what they already know. As we build on foundations, I provide examples of good techniques, and we work on the techniques that work for them. Very often, I focus on what they are able to do, rather than what they feel they have to do. Building strong foundations is vital to life long learning and my approach focuses on that.
Having been a tutor for over 10 years, I have a wide range of resources I draw on, and even encourage them to do school work together.
