I am a caring and hard-working tutor, passionate about my subject and determined to achieve the best results for my students. I prepare my sessions diligently and can be flexible, both in my approach and the scheduling of the teaching.
Additionally, I am an independent scholar, writing, researching and giving papers in the fields of American drama and age studies; I have an international reputation as a Tennessee Williams specialist. My PhD on Tennessee Williams was published by Cambridge University Press in 2012.
I have considerable experience, having taught in a variety of schools - comprehensive, specialist and private - for twenty-five years. During that time, I held middle-management positions - as a head of department and head of sixth form - that gave me invaluable experience of the curriculum and its construction, different examination boards and the UCAS process. I have been tutoring very successfully full time through various agencies for about six months.
I firmly believe that tutoring is not just about imparting information, but about establishing a rapport. I take an interest in the student as an individual and work on developing a long-term strategy to enhance his/her learning, setting realistic but aspirational goals.I regularly produce extra materials to broaden students' understanding of a topic.
