I'm a professional researcher and lecturer in Religious Studies / Philosophy (my specialisms are Jewish Studies and Black religion). I have a PhD from the University of Nottingham and several peer-reviewed publications including my first book published by Routledge on Jewish Mysticism, and my swcond and third books (Bloomsbury, Cambridge University Press) on Black American religion.
As well as all topics within Religion and Philosophy, I am able to tutor on individual topics in History and Politics, especially (but not only) those related the Middle East and religious history. I can also teach Hebrew (biblical and modern).
I have taught Religious Studies and Philosophy at university level for six years, initially at the University of Nottingham and lately at Liverpool Hope University and University of Chester. I design modules and lessons, based around the individual needs of the individual or institution.
My style of teaching is to challenge and encourage independent thought. In philosophy and religion it is important to understand concepts from the inside, and often the culture they come from is alien to our own; so I aim to provide the student tools to think themselves into the shoes of those we are working with. I am passionate about my profession and dedicated to bringing the best out of my students, as I believe these are the most important - not to say fascinating - subjects around.
I am also entirely happy to proof-read and comment on essays or dissertations from any subject. My standard of written English is very high, and I am knowledgeable about specialist and academic vocabulary across a number of subjects.
Message me to book sessions together - I will happily answer any questions you have.
I am currently based in Liverpool. However I am happy to arrange Skype sessions for anyone based further afield.
