Hello! My name is Miriam and I'm currently an undergraduate medical student studying at the University of Nottingham. I sat my A Levels last year and remember how stressful they were, so I'd love to try and make them as easy as possible for you. I'm tutoring part time and would be able to do weekly sessions to try and tackle some of the concepts you find difficult in an encouraging way.
I've run a student-led medical school preparation group at my college at lunchtimes for around 30 students where we developed our admissions test (UCAT, BMAT) and interview (MMI stations) skills, and prepared our personal statements. I personally applied to medical school in 2018 and achieved a UCAT score of 3460 (SJT band 1) and 4 offers to my chosen universities, so am able to use my knowledge for support and tutoring through any aspect of the selection process too.
During my A levels last year, I volunteered to tutor GCSE students at drop-in clinics at lunchtimes, in science and maths. I've also had some experience tutoring my peers unofficially when they needed help with A level subjects that I was also studying.
As a tutor, I'd be looking to spend some time with you to help you figure out your strengths and areas to focus on, and come up with a plan to improve your skills in a structured way so that you feel as confident and prepared as possible, as well as passing on some tips and resources that I found helpful personally. I believe the best way to learn is to understand the concepts fully, and not just follow a list of instructions, so that you'll be fully equipped to deal with any tricky questions that are thrown at you.
