I am a native speaker, having lived in the UK for over thirty years.
I have a professional teaching qualification (PGCE) and taught for years in secondary schools. I have also tutored many over the years, both in small classes and one to one lessons. I understand the language well, use a variety of material in order to make lessons more interesting and put emphasis on a pleasant, relaxed approach in lessons in order to enjoy the process.
I teach online using Teams or Skype but can also travel to the student if preferred.
PGCE from Nottingham University.
13 years teaching experience in secondary schools.
Also worked as a tutor on Evening classes for years both in Derbyshire and Staffordshire.
I have found the first issue with learning a new language is reluctance to speak because the learner is self-conscious and uncomfortable. I find the atmosphere of the lesson very important. It has to be relaxed, conversational, and I include discussion of aspects of french culture into the lesson to make it more alive. I adapt lessons to individuals and requirements. Someone wanting to spend two weeks in France for example, will be encouraged to ask questions and understand key phrases while someone more interested in the language and wanting to have lengthy conversations will need more emphasis on grammar as well as higher listening skills.
