I am a qualified (PGCE) and experienced maths teacher. I have lived and worked as a teacher in London for over 30 years. The last 24 have been with my husband in Greenwich, where we have brought up our two children, one of whom is now a primary school teacher in Greenwich, while the other is in his final year of university. I take an active part in local life, including as a violinist of the Blackheath Halls Orchestra.
I am an ex-head of maths with 30 years of teaching experience in state secondary schools, and latterly for the last 7 years as a private tutor. I am used to working with students of different abilities and with different learning requirements.
From 1986 to 1996, I taught maths to GCSE and A level at a Secondary School in North London, the last four years as a Deputy Head of Mathematics. I then worked as a Head of Department for 14 years in a Secondary School in Bexley.
My long experience of teaching children over a wide ability range means I am quick to gauge the needs of individual pupils and the best approach to helping them improve. Indeed, an essential aspect of my role was to identify and address the educational, social and behavioural needs of individual students, preparing tailored work plans accordingly. This put great emphasis on my ability quickly to establish a sound personal, but professional connection with my pupils. Learning should be fun but it also requires full commitment on both sides. Ultimately, I am an enthusiast for maths. I want to pass that enthusiasm on, as I believe this can only help to motivate students to give of their best and reach their potential.
