Most of my students have jumped as much as three grades after being tutored by me. I have a vast knowledge of both GEOGRAPHY and GEOLOGY from many years teaching GCSE and A-level, and professional experience in related industries. I can also offer ENVIRONMENTAL SCIENCE, the EPQ (Extended Project Qualification) and TRAVEL AND TOURISM, or ENVIRONMENTAL MANAGEMENT (IGCSE) as subjects but there is no option for those on the website currently!
I've lived in several countries and travelled to over 60, working as a geologist and also for NGOs and in the travel business. I've experienced two hurricanes and an earthquake, as well as living in the tropics and seen both extreme poverty and development in action! Although my background was Geology and Physical Geography, I have as much experience teaching Human topics and love teaching the modern human issues!
I teach in an A level college and tutor, giving me a full understanding of the whole picture of a student's learning. As a working teacher, I have a full and current DBS certificate. In fact, I've taught from Year 6 to adults, taking many exam classes to expected success and beyond for almost 20 years! I also have years of experience in examining for a top exam board, which helps me to hone my students' exam technique and chase those hard to reach extra marks! I have moderated for the NEA (Geography Independent Project), and can assist you to improve your fieldwork techniques and report write-up (within exam guidelines). I've taught most of the popular exam boards at A-level and GCSE, so have tips for each one. I have also been course leader for the EPQ, so can help students achieve top marks in that (again within exam guidelines). I can also do short courses or one-off sessions for students in other subjects who need help with exam or revision technique, and to reinvigorate a love of learning!
Learning needs to be enjoyable, rewarding and fun as well as hard work! (can't escape that part!) I'll teach you lots of different revision techniques (some of which make students laugh) so you can learn what works best for you. Having learnt that for myself later on in my education, I know how difficult it can be to work that out during those important exam years. We'll take each topic at your pace, and we'll work together on improving any weak areas. I'm happy to work with those doing retakes, needing some extra help whilst also doing classes, or equally with those who need the whole course taught to them.
I started tutoring online during the pandemic after many years of face to face, and my students have all done brilliantly. After moving to a more rural area, and students finding me from all over the world, I decided to move to online only.
I have current availability for either evenings, or weekends. I can do weekly regular or one-off sessions. Please contact me and we'll see if we can find a mutually convenient time.
