I'm a 23-year-old, recent university graduate with a strong passion for History, Politics and Classical Studies.
In year 10 at school I acted as a menator for students, helping them with their studies, going over things such as essay planning, proof reading, essay structure and how to best learn and remember content.
I also have direct experience of being a tutor having had 4 different subject tutors during my GCSEs and A-levels. I know that a significant part of being a tutor is about structuring the teaching around the needs of the student whilst also creating clearly structured targets and approaches to issues.
The first lesson of each term would be focused around what the pupil thinks they need to work on most as well as input from feedback at school.
I would develop and build a development plan around how to address the things that the pupil wants to cover and track their progress. I would introduce them to a variety of methods and techniques. Be that technique around how to do an exam essay in time, the benefit of using mindmaps and flashcards or how to best proofread an essay and how to check for things such as tenses and word endings.
The whole structure is designed and intended to be tailored to each pupil's individual needs, allowing for a variety of approaches and methods depending on what the pupil feels will best suit them.
