I have been tutoring struggling GCSE and A-Level students in London since 2019, and have helped many to get from low or failing grades to the very top of the class.
I am passionate about tutoring, as tutors helped me when I was struggling in early secondary school, and ultimately their inspiration propelled me onto a successful academic path. Without the care and consideration that these tutors had for me, I certainly could not have done as well as I did. I therefore want to provide the best experience possible, and try to inspire my students to give them the confidence that will not only help them pass exams, but thrive in their formative years.
I have been tutoring for nearly 5 years in London, mainly in the Hackney area when things were "in-person", and then online during the pandemic. Having been to a state school where the teaching can often be pretty sub-par, and having to rely on my own volition to learn, either by myself or from tutors, informs my understanding of many of the struggles that pupils face in London.
I teach by practice, as there is no better way to learn. This is the same technique I used to get to Imperial. By encouraging tutees to complete as many past papers and questions as they can and crucially, self-marking their questions, they are able to make quick progress to higher grades. This might sound a little boring, but I'll give you a little tip for free: exam questions are rarely ever original. In my experience, questions are either compiled or directly copied from older papers, so it is really a no brainer to do as many of these older papers as possible.
I also work with students to challenge themselves complete questions that are harder than is required for their level. In this way they gain problem-solving confidence and increase scientific thinking that will make the normal exam questions seem easy. In line with this, I encourage students to read and explore beyond the course, as inspiration and personal interest in the subjects is highly important to learning.
