I have been working in schools, both private and state, for the last 15 years. I have now also enjoyed 500+ hours of successful Zoom tutorials and qualified as a Dyslexia therpaist. I really enjoy working with young people and watching their confidence grow and seeing them develop their own thoughts, ideas and strategies in different subject areas. I have been fortunate enough to work with children from many different backgrounds and have been able to see them thrive in a variety of scenarios; through coaching them on the sports field, helping them with their lines for a show or finally getting to grips with some of the essential academic skills that had been holding them back.
I have been tutoring for more than 17 years now, with the majority of my work taken up with entrance exams and the 11+ papers, most recentlhy in the last 3 years with families aiming for the tier 1 schools in and around London. I have worked as a learning support assistant in primary and secondary schools and I used that experience to underpin my teacher training for secondary school. I have recently taught History and Government and Politics to all age groups, but I have also worked as a SENCO. I am a qualified examiner for EDEXCEL
We never graduate from the basics.
I approach tutoring by focusing primarily on the strengths of the person I am working with. This helps me to take their confidence and comfort in one aspect and secure it in others. From a positive and secure starting point I can then establish which areas can benefit the most from a more focused approach without the person having to fear repeated under achievement and overloading.
