I am a former Vice Principal at one the UK's oldest tutoring colleges'(rated Outstanding by Ofsted) and have a Doctorate from King's College London. I have been tutoring for over eleven years now, focusing on Geography and Politics. During this time, I have taught these subjects to a wide variety of levels, from 13+ through to degree level, and examination boards (AQA, Edexcel, OCR, Pre-U), meaning that I have the experience of tutoring, subject knowledge and exam technique that many part-time tutors lack.
I have a range of interests, particularly around travel (I have been to all the continents bar Antarctica), sport (both playing and watching) and theatre. I am also currently trying to learn German (something that I struggle with!) and have entered the joys of fatherhood with a 3-year old who keeps me very busy!
I am also training to become a Child and Adolescent Psychotherapist, currently in Year 2 of a five year part-time course. This means that I have a current CRB that I am happy to produce upon request.
I have worked at one of the UK's oldest tutoring colleges, since 2007. Starting part-time, I have been a full-time tutor since 2012.
I have taught a number of subjects during my tenure (geography, geology, government and politics, maths, SATs) to students ranging from KS3 to university level and taking into account all the major boards.
I have been an assistant examiner for OCR in Geography (GCSE and A2) which is invaluable when considering exam technique.
I have also provided advice on dissertations ranging from Bachelors to PhD level.
I am also a qualified TEFL teacher which informs upon my teaching style.
The key thing is flexibility and an ability to tailor tutoring to a student's particular needs. Therefore the approach is bespoke to each student, and indeed to each session. For some students, a clear program of study with firm deadlines is appropriate; for others, it will be more homework support and knowledge filling.
I also aim to make sessions as interactive as possible so there will be plenty of questions (both verbal and written) and discussion to promote learning and understanding.
