I am an English Literature graduate from London with a passion for reading, writing, discussing and teaching literature.
Since completing my degree, I have worked as a copywriter, a production assistant and in office administration, so my writing ability is excellent.
I am an older sister to two siblings under the age of 12 and I have worked as a nanny for the past three years so I am very comfortable around children. I have recently started a new role as a teaching assistant teaching English to secondary school aged children too, so have additional experience working with teenagers.
I am eager to encourage progress in all my students and look forward to bringing out the best of their potential through my classes!
I have been a volunteer tutor for two years as part of the Student Action for Refugees initiative at my university. I taught Maths and English to second generation refugee children, most of whom did not speak English as their first language.
Working as a nanny for two boys the past three years, I had to homeschool during the UK lockdowns. I taught English, Maths, Science, Art, and all other subjects to a 6 year old and a 10 year old full time during the second and third UK lockdowns.
I currently work as a teaching assistant teaching English to Spanish children as part of a year abroad programme. The children are aged between 11-18 and I organise lessons for them as well as assist in marking work in English.
Learning about literature is best achieved through discussion, and I aim to create exciting, engaging lessons through active participation from both student and teacher. I believe it is important to talk through themes and motifs in texts rather than only have the student read and make notes alone.
The best way to achieve the highest grade, however, is through practice, so I will set a lot of practice papers. Each mistake in a practice paper is an opportunity to learn and improve, increasing the possibility of getting it right in the real exam.
I pledge to never make my lessons boring, and I love and can match the upbeat energy of children and teenagers!
