I'm a full time Maths and Philosophy tutor, with a passion for discussion, enquiry and abstract ideas! I have a BSc in Maths and Philsophy, and an MSc in Applied Maths, both from The University of Manchester.
Students often find Maths and Philosophy to be intimidating subjects, but I hope with some guidance and support I can help to pass on my love for these schools of thought.
I've been tutoring informally since secondary school, but between my master's and undergrad I began tutoring professionally on a part time basis. Since finishing my master's, I am tutoring A level Maths and Philosophy full time.
Often when students are struggling with a subject, particularly in more conceptual areas like Maths and Philosophy, the issue is less their ability and more their confidence in their ability. I try to support students in cultivating this confidence, so that they can learn without having answers spoon fed to them.
With new students, I like to begin with an introductory lesson, where we can get to know one another, I can get an idea for where you are in your respective course, and you can explain what you're looking for from me. Once we move into regular sessions, I generally use a lesson structure beginning with a recap of the previous session; then teaching new material, including discussions and solving some problems; and ending with a recap, and problems to think about for the next session. I alwasy try to be flexible though, and tailor my lessons to fit the needs of my students!
