Hi, my name is Olivia Removed and I’m currently studying English at Queen Mary University of London. My studies have imparted a wealth of knowledge and passion for literature and writing, and I’m ready to help you conquer all things reading, writing, and comprehension! I have an amiable and friendly nature, connecting with each student individually and engaging with their interests.
Studying English literature is a gateway to become an expert in all of the humanities; it’s all about finding the best ways to comprehend abstract theories into simpler and accessible terms. Pairing that with creativity and outside-the-box thinking, I can confidently say that English prepares you for a myriad of paths for the future. I am passionate about sharing my genuine love of the subject with students and building their confidence; it is beyond rewarding to see their development and individual journeys in the subject.
I have been tutoring for three years, helping students across all age groups master the skills needed to excel in English. I offer assistance with text analysis and have wide knowledge of texts from mediaeval literature right the way through to the English classic literary canon and more contemporary works. Additionally, I have a working knowledge of close reading tactics, exam and coursework preparation, and literary theory.
I firmly believe that no student learns or engages in the same way, so I take pride in listening and prioritising the most effective learning techniques to ensure that lessons are constructive, supportive and encouraging. This includes giving relevant, real-life examples of concepts that they can relate back to, condensing concepts into smaller fragments and exploring cultural contexts behind texts to better engage with it. Finally, I believe in an open-minded and conversational teaching environment where no question is left unanswered.
I provide a nurturing, compassionate and stimulating environment for students of all backgrounds and abilities to succeed and achieve their highest potential. I tailor my approach according to your unique learning and connect with you to find the best methods that work for you!
Students can feel comfortable discussing texts and debating, where their critical perspectives and ability to actively participate can be realised. My lessons are truly student-led; I allow students to flourish and achieve success on their own accord and at their pace. I develop lesson plans according to both my assessments of their needs and abilities while also engaging with student’s own self-assessment and opinion of what they require help with most.
I believe that working directly with the students on their goals will foster independent learning skills that they will take with them as they approach their goals. With these methods employed, you can grow and improve to reach your goals and gain a fervent confidence to pursue new challenges!
