Hello!
It’s a pleasure to meet you, my name is Owen! I am an experienced self-employed tutor offering online English tuition to students across the UK and beyond. The subjects I teach are national curriculum English Literature and English Language, Teaching English as a Foreign Language as well as preparation for University studies (BA).
Before getting into the nitty gritty of what I’m offering, I’ll give you a little more info about me! I have a number of hobbies and interests including reading fantasy and sci-fi novels, playing and listening to music, getting involved with lots of Pop Culture and playing RPG video games. I’m always trying to find common interests with students as I feel this is the best way of creating a bridge between teacher and student!
I have experience teaching a range of exam boards including the AQA, SQA, EDUQAS and WJEC. I offer a range of teaching at a variety of levels. Within the AQA and WJEC, this includes KS3+, GCSE and A-Level. Within the SQA curriculum I offer classes on National 4/5, Higher and Advanced Highers. I also have experience working with students with a broad range of SEN having worked in this capacity with previous and current teaching roles.
I am a postgraduate having studied an MA in English and Philosophy at the University of Aberdeen and an MSc in Philosophy at the University of Edinburgh. I am also TEFL certified and I am planning to undertake a PGDE in the next academic year.
My goal in every class is to build confidence in applying the skills appropriate to the level of study. I always try to keep a relaxed environment for students that will allow their creativity to shine and ultimately allow them to enjoy learning English!
If you’re interested in taking me on as a tutor please reach out! All 30 minute trials are without charge: these will mainly be focussed on getting to know each other and discussing the students needs as well as creating a plan for future sessions. I have a frequently updated PVG (Scottish equivalent to the Enhanced DBS) which will be provided to every parent or student prior to every trial. Discussion of rates after the trial is negotiable depending on the level and the amount of support that I will be providing. All classes are 60 minutes long and will be conducted via Zoom. I will provide a regularly updated link to my availability for sessions to anyone who is interested booking classes – this is likely to change as I currently have several students who I am teaching at the moment.
Please reach out if you're interested or if you have any questions either through this page or through my email: Removed
I’m excited about the possibility of taking on new students and continuing to provide supportive and engaging lessons that students will enjoy and help with their studies!
I have been teaching English for 4 years with several companies. I am currently a self-employed teacher working with 6 students who are working towards their Nat 5's and GCSE's.
My aim is to make lessons fun and interesting and try to encourage students to be creative and have fun!
