Online Tuition for Music

I am affiliated with the Royal College of Music’s Teaching Service and serves as an examiner for Cambridge International’s GCSE Music Exam. I have more than 10 years of experience in providing private music theory and academic music tuition. As a top achiever at leading universities and music conservatoires, I possess a solid musical background and offers tuition at all levels, covering music theory (ABRSM), academic music (GCSE, IB, A Level, AP), aural skills, composition, music software (Sibelius, Dorico, Logic), and essay writing.

I am completing my Doctorate in Music Composition at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama. Previously, I graduated from the Royal College of Music with a Master of Music in Composition with Distinction and the University of Hong Kong with a Bachelor of Arts in Music with First-class Honours. A composer in my own right, I have written for notable bodies such as the Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra and the Bloomsbury Festival (London).

Tutoring Approach

I don’t see myself as musically gifted, but someone who has worked hard to reach my current level. This makes me an empathetic teacher, as I understanding the challenges that my students may face first-hand.

Additionally, it’s important to let students advance at their own speed. My goal is to establish a safe space where students can ask questions, make errors, and try new things. My teaching method is based on my personal experience: curiosity always comes first, followed by practice and constant learning.

Last but not least, I record students’ progress by maintaining a shared lesson document, where we jot down key points discussed in class. When needed, I also email exercises and readings for further study or revision. For younger students, I usually communicate closely with their parents to ensure that they are aware of their children’s progress too.
