Hello, my name is Oyin and I thoroughly enjoy teaching Maths, English and Law! I am a First Class Law Graduate from Cambridge University and also achieved A*AA in Mathematics, History and English Literature at A Level. Through hard work I was able to achieve 3 9s (A**) in my GCSEs in English Literature, Language and Mathematics and look to pass the skills I acquired onto my tutees. I seek to enrich the knowledge of others and look to create a positive, enthusiastic environment where my students and I can thrive together, also one where the students feel at ease to make mistakes, a necessity to grow from them and flourish. I am a very bubbly, charismatic individual and take real pleasure in helping others and being part of a team, as reflected in my dedication to the netball and basketball team throughout my schooling experience, and in joining the debating team in sixth form.

Tutoring Experience

I have 6 years experience tutoring Maths and English first at my school to GCSE students from 2017-2019 then on online tutoring websites until now. I am delighted to say all of my 20+ students have achieved grades 7 (A) and 9 (A**). I achieve this through teamwork and guided work, whilst not being overbearing so my students feel comfortable to take initiative and not feel bad for messing up! When teaching foundation mathematics, my students have consistently achieved level 5s.

I also tutor Oxbridge admissions for law as well as the core modules in Law A Level and Undergraduate, giving my students unique insights into the modules and working on technique to get to a first class and A* level

Tutoring Approach

I believe that mathematics is a pattern and so the best way to teach students is to go through a worked example or two using the pattern and then allowing the student to complete a question by themselves using the set method with full assistance from myself if needed. Then as the lesson progresses, I will decrease my input and increase the difficulty of the questions to see how well the student can apply the pattern to the questions. If the student is finding difficulty in recalling the pattern, I will ensure to leave the method of an example in full view of the student to they can use the pattern as a prompt, and then minimise how much of the pattern they can see to allow them to utilise it from memory. With English Literature, my approach will be exploring the way students are able to think of ideas themselves as the subject is so subjective and the best way for ideas to stick in students' heads is to reinforce/refine the ideas they thought of originally. In addition, students can think of the most beautiful, creative ideas but just need the confidence to write it down and go through with it so I hope to develop the confidence of the students. I will ensure to begin/end the lesson reinforcing the main message of the lesson as students are likely to remember what is taught at the start and at the end.
