I am a professional and experienced tutor whose main aim is to help students reach their full potential. I am currently a classroom teacher and also the head of chemistry at the school I teach at. I hold a Bachelors of Science in Chemistry which I obtained from the University of Birmingham. Due to this my specialism is Chemistry and therefore I teach it at key stage 3, 4 and 5. In addition to teaching chemistry at key stage 3, I also teach biology and physics at this level.
I have experience tutoring and teaching all exam boards. I have been able to help students gain confidence within chemistry and aided them to achieve the very best they can.
Due to currently working in a classroom and being Head of Chemistry, all of my resources, subject knowledge, exam board information etc. is up-to-date. I recently opted to complete a masters in expert teaching to further delve into the literature and research surrounding how pupils learn, ensuring that I can continuously adapt my teaching and tutoring to what suits each of my students best.

- 8 students achieved grade A
- Out of 21 students, 10 students exceeded and were above track.
2022 GCSE Results:
- All students (32 students) got a grade 5 or above in their GCSE chemistry.
- 64% of students got grade 7 or above,
- 29% of those students achieved a grade 9.
Exam data prior to this hasn't been included due to exams running differently (e.g. TAGS, Teacher Assessed Grades,) due to Covid.
I pride myself in being able to adapt my approach and teaching style to each individual tutee. I understand that different students have different learning styles and therefore I tailor each session specifically for each individual student.
Due to the experience and resources I have gained from my classroom teaching as well as from my masters course, I recognise what approaches work best for students to have an enhanced learning experience. Additionally, when learning chemistry and science it is very important to understand that the subject is extremely broad and therefore different approaches need to be used at different points.
Chemistry and the other sciences are subjects where early subject knowledge is required to build on and learn additional subject knowledge. Therefore, consolidation is extremely important. This is achieved by using a range of approaches such as retrieval practice and inter-leaving.
I aspire to help students learn and gain subject knowledge, self-confidence and independence during my tutoring sessions. This means that I help them to not only learn the content I am teaching but also help them gain and practice the skills they require to tackle problems independently. This comes from approaches such as modelling, scaffolding and ultimately practice practice practice. This is by students completing tasks such as exam questions as 'practice truly does make perfect'. These are also always followed by useful and tailored feedback.
