I'm a full-time teacher and Head of Department at King Edward's School, Bath - a top independent school in the South West. In my spare time I am a private tutor. I have Qualified Teacher Status and nine years' experience of GCSE, IGCSE and A Level teaching at top UK private schools behind me. I have extensive experience of tutoring, from helping Common Entrance students get in to Eton College, to GCSE History students wanting to improve their grades, through to A Level History and Politics students competing for A*s and Oxbridge entry. I have marked A Level History for both the AQA and Edexcel exam boards.

Between 2017 and 2021 I taught History at Radley College in Oxfordshire, and before that I taught History and Politics at Solihull School in the West Midlands. Before teaching, I worked in politics and journalism.

I graduated from Queen Mary, University of London with First Class Honours in History. I then won a prestigious Mile End Group scholarship to return and complete a Masters in Modern and Contemporary History, for which I was awarded a Distinction.

I was previously a student at Marlborough College in Wiltshire, and left with A Star grades in History, Politics, and Pre-U English (a new, more rigorous qualification equivalent to an A-level).

In my spare time I enjoy politics, reading, writing, travelling, cricket and cooking.

As a full-time teacher, I am only available to tutor on evenings, weekends, and in school holidays - but we can usually find a mutually convenient time. I'm not the cheapest, but you can count on me to deliver professional service and high-quality resources so that your child can achieve everything they're capable of.

Tutoring Experience

Current: Head of History and Politics at King Edward's School, Bath.

2017-2021: Teacher of History at Radley College, Oxfordshire (including GCSE and A Level History, Common Entrance marking, and A Level History examining for Edexcel).

2015-2017: Teacher of History and Politics at Solihull School, West Midlands (including A Level History and Politics, GCSE History, and A Level History examining for AQA).

I also have extensive private tutoring experience from Common Entrance through to undergraduate level in History and Politics

I have an NVQ in teaching pupils with Special Educational Needs so am well-versed in reducing barriers to learning, and am competent with both Zoom and Microsoft Teams for a smooth technological experience if online tutoring is more efficient for you.

Tutoring Approach

I am a friendly and approachable tutor who takes pride in developing a rapport with both the student and their parents, believing that getting maximum buy-in is the key to success.

History topics I have taught include, but are not limited to:

1000 years of health and medicine
Norman Conquest
17th Century Britain
18th Century France
19th Century Britain
19th and 20th Century Russia
All aspects of 20th Century world history including Ireland, Civil Rights in the USA, the Vietnam War, Arab-Israeli conflict, C20th China, Nazi Germany, WWI and WWII, and the Cold War.

I am very open to suggestions not on the above list - chances are I've taught it!

I also teach A Level Politics - British, American, and Global.

Having taught online through periods of school closure recently, I am fully familiar with Microsoft Teams, Zoom, and Google Classroom and would be happy to use whichever was your preferred suite. In the interests of time, I prefer to tutor online, but do meet clients at their homes for a travel fee.

Finally, I am a rigorous marker and return marked work quickly, with extensive and constructive feedback.
