I have been a part-time university lecturer for fifteen years, with experience of teaching undergraduates from a wide variety of backgrounds. I have taught a wide range of courses at various London universities, including Birkbeck and Goldsmith's. I am married with five children and live in Hackney close to local transport. I have a friendly and patient attitude and an infectious enthusiasm for literary studies. I have published papers in academic journals on aspects of Renaissance theatre and was a major contributor to an encyclopedia on the Renaissance and Reformation. I have also presented my research at a number of conferences, including the Shakespeare Institute and Birkbeck College. As well as being an experienced and enthusiastic tutor I am also working as a novelist. I have lots of interests, including music, fell walking, vegetarian cookery, reading, Renaissance art, theatre, slacklining (a bit like tightrope walking) and bellringing.
I have experience of teaching most aspects of English literature and have supervised student dissertations in most areas from Chaucer to modern poetry and drama. My specialism is Shakespeare and his contemporaries and Renaissance poetry.
As well as offering tuition in all aspects of English Literature I am currently specialising in AQA A level (Angela Carter, The Picture of Dorian Gray, Hamlet, Duchess of Malfi and Paradise Lost).
I can help you to dramatically improve your grades and can help to improve your essay writing, dissertations and help you to plan for exams. I can also assist with writing Personal Statements and make them sparkle, which will increase your chances when applying for university. This can often be done online. I lead friendly, student focused tutorials which are very much designed to suit the individual needs of my students. I appreciate that students may prefer online tuition during the current pandemic and I have experience of using Teams, Zoom and Collaborate.
