Tutoring Experience

I am an experienced and qualified retired Science teacher specialising in Biology, with 35 years experience as a secondary school teacher and over 10 years in home tuition. I hold a Bachelor of Science (BSc) degree in Genetics and Zoology from Cardiff University. I have a track record of improving knowledge and confidence in my tutees throughout the year, helping them achieve the grades they aim for.

In addition to my experience as a teacher I have acted as an examiner for both GCSE and A-level Biology exams for the following exam boards:

GCSE Biology – AQA and OCR
A-Level Biology – OCR
Coursework moderation – WJEC

Through working directly with these examining boards, I have gained valuable experience of what examiners are looking for in student’s answers to obtain maximum marks, which I pass on through my tuition.

I offer one-to-one tuition which is tailored to individual needs, whether that be the whole curriculum or specific topic areas. I have an extensive resource pool of past paper questions from varying examining boards, along with their mark schemes, as well as my own teaching materials I have built up through the years.

Availability: Most weekends/holidays. Midweek (advanced notice required)

Tutoring Approach

Generally, I like to go over the subject specification relating to specific topics. I then provide extensive past paper resources with each question being followed by its own mark scheme. Tuition is done rarely on a face to face basis. Online enables me to service more tutees from all over the country and is equally effective.
