I live near High Wycombe and have a BA (Hons) History degree from Oxford University. I also have a Postgraduate Diploma in Social Science from The Open University.

My specialism is History at GCSE and A Level. I also offer Geography and other humanities up to GCSE.

I began my working career in bookselling and publishing. Later I trained to become a qualified Youth & Community Worker and have 16 years' experience as a youth mentor, youth worker, youth work manager and latterly teaching and tutoring. I have an annually updated, online enhanced DBS check.

I am also a keen mountaineer, cyclist and birdwatcher.

Tutoring Experience

I started teaching secondary and older primary pupils in 2014, when I also began tutoring. I work in Primary, Upper and Grammar schools.

I can provide student reviews certificates for all degrees and qualifications on request.

Tutoring Approach

My sessions are informal but focused, balancing facts and events, historical themes and interpretations. I prepare individually for each tutoring session based on the student's particular needs (for example, general clarification or help with a given topic, review of essays or coursework or exam preparation). I always bring and leave a typed sheet of the key points we cover. This is also available by email so that the student can read, augment or revise from it as suits them best.

Feedback about my tutoring has emphasised my commitment, reliability and ability to enthuse my students, and to develop both their knowledge and powers of historical insight.
