Maths and Law Tuition in Wallasey

Hi. I’m Pete. I offer tuition for Maths, Law and Sociology, using my experience to help make these subjects both easier to understand and fun to learn for students. I am friendly and approachable and strive to build confidence in my students and encourage a ‘can-do’ approach. I am passionate about my teaching and take personal pride in my student’s achievements so really want them to maximise their abilities and truly reach their full potential.

Having earlier completed my Undergraduate Law degree, Postgraduate in Legal Practice and Masters degree in Criminology at the University of Sheffield, I then worked as a corporate lawyer in London for a number of years. I now live on the Wirral with my wife and I'm looking to continue giving back the benefit of my experiences over the years in a teaching capacity.

Currently I’m completing my PhD at the University of Liverpool, which combines Law, Sociology and Criminology. I study for my PhD on a part-time basis, which gives me the opportunity to both teach at the University of Liverpool and tutor other students, where I am committed to helping my students achieve their goals.

I can host or travel to any tutee on the Wirral. I’m happy to offer a free trial session for any potential student, as I’m well aware just how important it is to have the right tutor for you.

Tutoring Experience

I have taught Sociology and Criminology seminars to undergraduate students at the University of Liverpool for the last 3 years, whilst working alongside my Law, Criminology and Sociology PhD. I have also worked on an individual 1:1 and small-group basis with many of my students, helping them to prepare for assignments and examinations, or any other help that they needed. I have an excellent track record of helping my students to obtain the grades that they strive for.

During my time at University, I have acted as a mentor to younger students studying Law and Sociology. This helped me to work out and develop my teaching approaches to see what worked best for different students.

Whilst teaching over the years, I have come across a wide range of different students, all looking for a slightly different variation of teaching from me. This experience has been of huge benefit in helping me to hone my teaching approach and remembering that every student is an individual with different needs and requirements. This means that my teaching is always focussed on the student as an individual and the specific learning needs that they have, as opposed to generic tuition.

I have taught Maths at GCSE and A Level on a one to one basis, over the last 10 years, both to friends, fellow students and other students who have needed help, particularly during the Co-Vid pandemic.

I am also a qualified football coach and have coached for over 20 years, working with both boys and girls of all ages and abilities, so I'm well practised in maximising ability and helping all people to achieve their true potential.

Tutoring Approach

My approach to teaching is always based around the student and an understanding that every student is unique, then engaging with each student to see what works best for them and what teaching methods best help them to reach their true potential and maximise their abilities.

I am patient, persistent and dedicated to my teaching and take this responsibility very seriously. I strongly believe that you learn the most when you are enjoying yourself and when learning is fun. It is this attitude and approach which I bring to the learning environment. I want my students to look forward to my teaching sessions and help them to thrive and achieve all of their goals.

Teaching on a 1:1 basis means that the individual and personal needs of each student can be met. It is important to me that every student feels a sense of achievement at the end of the lesson, as well as ensuring that they are academically challenged throughout. By allowing my students to see the progress that they are making and how their understanding is being enhanced, this in turn helps to build their confidence and self-belief.

I am happy to adjust my teaching pace to best suit each individual student that I work with and in turn hope to make the sessions both enjoyable for the student, as well as being useful and enhancing their understanding. I'm happy to work to specific targets like exams and assignment deadlines, if that is the main aim for the student, or equally happy to take a more general approach if this works best, without time specific deadlines to work to.

I have a relaxed approach to my teaching where I want every student to be comfortable asking any question at all that they would like answering, regardless of how ‘silly’ they may feel the question is. To me, no question is ever too unimportant to ignore.
