Hello. I am a violin teacher with over 35 years teaching experience, offering lessons in the Bromsgrove area.
I am passionate about teaching and over the years have had pupils of all ages, ranging from 9 to 90!
Aside from my commitment to teaching, I have also played for the last 40 years as an orchestral violinist in most of the UK orchestras, touring the UK and throughout the world, mostly as leader of the Second Violin sections of the Scottish Chamber Orchestra, Royal Northern Sinfonia and the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra.
I am also a keen chamber musician, performing on BBC radio, TV and touring internationally, as a member of the Leda Trio and alongside artists such as the Endellion Quartet, Peter Donohoe, Stephen Bishop Kovacevich and Michael Collins.
I have taught the violin in my own private practice, in schools and at the Universities of Edinburgh and Newcastle (where I was Head of Strings). I have also taught at the Junior School of the RNCM and currently teach at Junior Birmingham Conservatoire.
I have also been involved in many educational outreach projects for various orchestras (including workshops in schools in Hong Kong and Japan), and also coached orchestras at Durham University and at KES Edgbaston.
Many of my pupils have been very successful in Associated Board exams (one received the highest mark given in ABRSM Grade 8), been members of the National Youth Orchestra and gone on to study at music conservatoires.
I aim to make my lessons a lot of fun, mixed with a good sense of well-structured playing development.
I aim to make learning inspiring and exciting, covering many contrasting musical styles, depending on the specific preferences of my pupils.
