I'm Phavit, a Postdoctoral Research associate (Chemical Engineering and Industrial Biotechnology) at the University of Manchester since 2020. I am branching out from university teaching to become a part-time tutor.
My background is in Chemical Engineering, with a PhD, MPhil, and BEng from the University of Manchester and the University of Cambridge. Since 2016, my research area has been engineering biotechnology, where I have earned a PhD.
As a chemical engineer with experience in biotechnology, I am confident that I can deliver tutorial sessions on physics, chemistry, and biology at GCSE and A-levels.
I am also available for Chemical Engineering modules at undergraduate and masters levels. (As there are no options to put Chemical Engineering on offer on FirstTutors, I've listed this offer under Chemistry)
My accommodation has a communal workspace that could be used. Alternatively, I can travel to a public location in Manchester city center, such as a café, or teaching could be done at communal teaching spaces of the University of Manchester Oxford road campus, where my office is located.
As a full-time researcher, I am mainly available to teach outside of my working hours before 9.00, after 17.00, or on Saturdays. However, we can discuss other times on a case by case basis.
I also offer a free 30 minutes (online) consultation before you make a decision.
My teaching experiences include preparing course material, delivering workshops, and providing teaching assistance for undergraduates at the University of Manchester. The modules include CHEN10041 Process Engineering Fundamentals, CHEN10192 Chemical Thermodynamics, and CHEN20072 Distillation and Absorption.
I like to tailor my approach to the students' needs, but at its core, my approach is based on helping the students to visualise and understand the problem that they need to solve (i.e. their goals) and what information and knowledge are required to get their (i.e. what they have in their “toolbox”. To this end, I will focus on building a strong foundation of knowledge and help the students, through practice, to apply that knowledge successfully to the task at hand, whether that be an exercise, a piece of course work or a final exam.
As my teaching experience is from university in person teaching, I do prefer to teach in person.
