Bachelor (Hons.) Science degree. Excellent knowledge of the British National Curriculum and tutoring experience in preparation for AQA, OCR and EdExcel examinations. Qualified Secondary teacher with 10 years of experience teaching all Sciences at KS3 and 4 level and Physics at KS5. I am a mum of 3 and know first hand the importance of generating and preserving the interest and engagement of this wonderful subject as well as teaching all the necessary skills to succeed in examinations. I am personable, friendly and open and take pride and personal interest in making sure you succeed in your scientific endeavour. I have a great interest in mindful approach to learning, and would be happy to share visualisation and mediation techniques to help a student deal with anxiety, stress and overwhelming feeling of having to prepare for examinations.
My teaching experience spans over a number of state and private schools in the UK and Germany. I have taught British National Curriculum for 10 years at Secondary and A level (specialising in Physics). My experience includes working with AQA, EdExcel and OCR exam boards at various levels from enthusing disengaged students to challenging advanced pupils and supporting them in one to one tutoring. My degree in Marine Biology and Oceanography is a strong foundation for understanding the application of all scientific concepts that I teach.
I have a meticulous approach to explaining the subject and ensuring full understanding of concepts. I often reinforce understanding by asking the students to teach the subject back or reflect on their work using an examiners mark scheme. I believe it is essential to be able to deliver a topic on various mediums as well as explain concepts in various ways to ensure engagement and understanding. I use a virtual whiteboard, past exams questions, worksheets and interactive diagrams. I ensure that all exam material is from students specified exam board to ensure all areas of the specification are covered.I use written examples, verbal explanations with visual aids and pay close attention to exam technique. Whilst focusing on achieving the best possible outcome in the exam, is the goal it does not take priority over the students understanding of the subject, enjoyment and the free flow of my lesson. I prefer to integrate exam practice throughout each lesson, so the methodology of solving an exam question becomes a well practised habit.
