Hello! I'm Poojit and I am currently a sixth form student at a grammar school, with offers to study medicine from UCL, King's College London and Bristol. One of the reasons I wanted to study medicine was because of my love for the sciences and how it helps you to understand the world around you. Teaching gives me a way of sharing this passion with others.
Things that set me apart from other tutors would be:
1) I'm incredibly patient and will spend time explaining a topic in numerous different approaches.
2) I'm friendly and am very easy to build a rapport with.
3) Having just gone through secondary school, I can easily empathise with a student and see problems from their perspective.
4) I not only focus on understanding content, but also understanding exam technique and how to answer questions in the exam itself.
5) I go beyond just my tutoring hours and will help with any concerns a student has with anything. This includes advising on applying for university, study skills, etc.
I have been teaching for 2 years now, both as a maths prefect in my school, where I was responsible for helping the underperforming students in lower years, as well as working as a tutor in my own time. This means I have taught for a total of approximately 150 - 200 hours. Some of the students that I have helped have gone from being at a 6(B) to achieving 8s and 9s (A*) in their GCSEs and I firmly believe with the right approach, any student can do the same.
I personalise teaching to each student by beginning with what they know about a topic and using that as a foundation to move forward. I'm very flexible in regards to my teaching plan and will start by going over anything a student didn't fully grasp in lessons at school before moving onto any new topics.
During exam time, I will review any past topics that the student doesn't understand fully or has forgotten and will also do walk throughs of exam questions.
I provide homework at the end of every lesson to be completed for the next as well as progress reports to parents at the end of every month so that they are also kept in the loop.
