Tutoring Experience

Private Tutor 7/2014~ NOW  Total experience to date: I have been a full-time tutor since 2014, and I estimate I have delivered more than 9000 hours of 1:1 tutorial to students in TAL Education Group. Since 2021, I have been a part time tutor as well as a full time postgraduate in the University of Manchester. I have taught English and Chinese extensively, apart from selected topics within Literature and history. This has been done at all levels from primary school through to undergraduate level. The students keep attending my class because of my professional teaching skills as well as proficiency in helping them achieve their desired grades.  Schools Experience: I have been employed in a Private School on two occasions, the first was for 10 months between 2014 and 2015 at a Secondary school covering for an English teacher who had taken leave. I was responsible for teaching small sized classes (less than 15) for 270 hours in total, collected and categorized the vocabulary, grammar, speaking topics and essay topics covered in the textbooks used by various student groups, and matched the class contents with the corresponding practice questions. The second was for 5 months in 2015, working as a Chinese teacher in an institution in Guangzhou, China. I consolidated knowledge according to the different textbooks they used and enriched teaching syllabus, collated Chinese exam papers in recent 3 years from the first 10 schools and analysed the difficulty and focus of the exams.  Current work: I have been an online tutor since 2019 because of the COVID-19. I am familiar with online tuition, since I am equipped with the high-speed internet
connection and other hardware/software to make the experience equal to if not better than tuition in flesh.  What I teach: I have taught students taking Gaokao English, Gaokao Chinese, IELTS, PET, FCE and KET exams. I have also taught CET 4 and CET 6 exams for degree level students. I have assisted with applications, personal statements, entrance exams and CV writing, through which I helped four students enter their ideal universities in the UK or in Hong Kong. Leader of Teacher Training Centre 11/2016~7/2020  Organizing Ability: I organized junior high school English teachers to participate in relevant compulsory and elective training according to grade levels and teaching ages. I completed 10 offline training sessions in one semester, and performed training appraisals, including training attendance, homework submission, homework feedback, and excellent homework selection, in order to help novice teachers adjust to their work timely and effectively. I also contributed to compile and proofread textbooks and handouts for students in TAL Education Group, including developing corresponding standard teaching plans and PowerPoint slides.  Communicative Skills: I was responsible for regular affairs of the teaching and research division, including the production of English posters, New Year party, and sports meeting to promote the relationship and intimacy between teachers.  Execution Skills: I coordinated with 8 campuses in Guangzhou to understand the needs of the campuses, recruited suitable teachers for the campuses and arranged class schedules, followed up on customer feedback collected from the campuses and provided feedback to teachers and staff timely. Besides, I was responsible for teaching quality control and teachers’ special matters, including teacher departure, replacement, leave, substitution, and teacher performance assessment, etc.
