Psychology Tutoring in Southsea

Originally from Trinidad and Tobago, I am an experienced Teacher, Researcher and Tutor, having more than 16 years experience in the academic industry. As the eldest of 4 daughters, I was always teaching and imparting knowledge into my siblings, while also following in the footsteps of my mother, aunt and grandmother. Having taught overseas and also raised in a multicultural household, I am adaptable, respectful and aware of cultural nuances. I have an outgoing and friendly disposition, in addition to excellent written and verbal communication skills, which has allowed me to develop strong rapport with pupils and develop healthy professional bonds with colleagues. To bolster my continued professional development, I have completed extensive safeguarding training and I have also completed a Secondary PGCE (Psychology) with QTS to compliment my degrees, strengthen my skillset and build my pedagogical knowledge. In my free time, I enjoy swimming, playing cards, long walks with my husband and spending time with my family & friends.

Tutoring Experience

I possess ten years experience in international classrooms boasting Western teaching norms, and a little less than one year’s experience in a UK-based school. This is complimented by extensive experience of 12 years in tutoring (University and Private), mentoring and research, with published work in my name. The University tutoring was in small groups while the private tutoring was one-to-one - both of which produced fantastic results for my students. Most recently, as a UK-based Psychology teacher, I have organised and run two Psychology clinics per week for pupils in need of additional support, which has had a positive impact on pupils’ confidence and academic performance. I offered Psychology curriculum enrichment lessons to Upper Sixth pupils who don’t study the subject but would like to learn about key topic areas. Furthermore, I ran a Psychology club to burgeoning Psychologists from KS3-KS5 where I can demonstrate my curriculum knowledge and they can learn about varying topics in the field. I have also been fortunate to be a Form tutor to Year KS3, KS4 and KS5 pupils where I served as both a mentor and teacher, taking part in numerous PSHE lessons and assemblies.

Tutoring Approach

In the classroom (online or in-person), I am an enthusiastic, dynamic and dedicated facilitator with a passion for Psychology. I rigorously plan and deliver unique, interactive and differentiated lessons that take a student-centred approach to stretch and challenge pupils while also scaffolding where necessary. I use inclusive strategies and incorporate technology to engage learners and produce meaningful learning outcomes for students of all capabilities. My goal is to allow my pupils to see their own strengths and to build both their confidence and knowledge.
