I am a recently retired head teacher who has enjoyed getting back into teaching after several years in an office. During lockdown and the current crisis I have developed my on-line teaching skills and have many hours of experience teaching mathematics and science in this format. I have become a confident user of Microsoft Teams and Zoom.
I have taught for 34 years. I initially started teaching mathematics and chemistry in a local high school and then moved schools where I became head of biology and also taught mathematics and computer science.
I always wanted to do some Christian missions work so spent an eventful and rewarding year working in the North West of England and also in East Africa. Following this I returned to education and became a primary school teacher where I continued to develop my mathematical knowledge as a leader in this subject. I then became deputy head teacher at Whitegate C of E Primary School for 4 years before moving to New Zealand where I worked as an Associate Principal for a further 4 years at Amisfield Full Primary School. After this thoroughly enjoyable experience I returned to the UK and taught at Bosley St Mary's, a village primary school eventually becoming deputy head teacher and finally head teacher.
Teaching and learning should be an enjoyable experience with clear goals and in an environment where the student feels confident enough to take risks.
Therefore any positive learning experience is based on trust and a positive relationship between teacher and student.
I expect students to focus on their work and accept challenges that will stretch their knowledge and understanding of a subject.
