Hello, I am Penny. I have seven years of experience teaching English, Chinese, and primary education within the context of the British curriculum. I am currently enrolled in the PGCE Primary programme and am on track to obtain my QTS this July. As a language learner myself, in addition to my mother tongues of Mandarin and Cantonese, I speak fluent English and Korean, as well as conversational German. My strength as a language teacher lies in my understanding of the process and potential difficulties of learning a foreign language and how to overcome them, as well as how to bridge the gap between the student's mother tongue and the target language.

Tutoring Experience

I am currently a PGCE teacher at a primary school in southwest London. Since 2021, I have been teaching and tutoring within the context of the British National Curriculum. Additionally, I have been a Mandarin tutor since 2017, instructing students of all ages from around the world and helping them achieve proficiency in Mandarin for effective communication.

Tutoring Approach

My approach to language teaching is highly communicative. I believe that new vocabulary, phrases, and even sentence structures are best mastered through repeated practice, ideally around eight times in various contexts. In my lessons, I use conversation as a primary tool to maximise my students' exposure to and use of the targeted new words and sentence structures, ensuring they become ingrained in long-term memory. Additionally, with my background in language learning, I am adept at quickly building bridges between the learner's native language and the target language, fostering confidence and enhancing fluency.
