I am a very experienced teacher and independent private tutor in the South Manchester area, teaching primary age children. I pride myself on being able to assess quickly, determine next steps and deliver my lessons in a creative manner adapted carefully to the needs of each of the children I teach.
A teacher at heart, I am also a lifelong learner. I love learning new skills and trying out new hobbies to add to my already long list of pastimes: reading, writing, theatre, cinema, walking, drawing and painting, cooking, gardening, crafting.
I am an enthusiastic primary teacher with thirty years of experience. Teaching is a lifelong passion and a part of who I am. After graduating with a BEd (Hons) degree from Westminster College, Oxford, in 1993, I gained a wealth of experience in both the state and independent primary education sectors. Head of English for ten years in a local preparatory school, I prepared children with a very broad range of abilities for 11+ examinations into grammar and independent secondary schools in the local area. I continue to support pupils with a wide range of learning needs, creating a positive and supportive learning environment so that the children in my care feel confident to ask questions, have a go and succeed at their own level.
Since leaving full time teaching to start my own tutoring business in August 2018, I have also adapted my skills to develop an online learning environment and create new opportunities for learning. Now, with a return to normality following the COVID epidemic, parents have the choice of either online or face to face teaching.
Everyone deserves the very best chance in life and I will provide your child with additional opportunities to learn, reinforce and extend understanding to help develop confidence and the motivation to succeed. The children I teach have a very wide range of needs. Some have wide gaps in their knowledge and others are preparing for examinations such as the 11 plus. I adapt my teaching to suit each individual in my care and every lesson and learning experience is very different depending on the needs of the child I am teaching at the time. I plan carefully to cater for these needs and keep very careful records of each lesson, taking time to update parents on their child's progress at the end of each lesson.
Please do not hesitate to get in touch to discuss my availability and what I can do to help your child.
