Outside of teaching, I am an active person and I enjoy time walking, cycling and playing in a netball league. I also love live music and I’m keen to catch various local music festivals. Be sure to check out the up and coming live music venue ‘The Piece Hall’ in my home town of Halifax, West Yorkshire.
I have been a teacher in the UK for 20 years and this is ongoing. Therefore, I am highly knowledgeable of the Primary National Curriculum and how schemes of work and lessons are expertly delivered. I offer quality professional tuition to primary aged pupils, tailoring my services to their needs.
I have successfully supported children working towards the end of year group assessments (English SATs) and the end of Year 1 Phonics Screening Check. I collaborated with the whole school team to develop the phonics programme of study in my current school. I worked on the lesson planning to refine our systematic phonics teaching to be of the highest standard, seeing the ongoing benefits of this over the past two years. This has included, provision for pupils with additional needs, EAL (English as an additional language) and G&T (gifted and talented).
I gained valuable experience teaching pupils at an international school in Cairo. Here it was a privilege to work within the foundation stage. The young children were a joy as I supported them in their early English journey. Through my role at ‘Early Years Lead’ I was able to develop the schemes of work and ensure that the phonics and English provision fully supported these young pupils at the start of their formal education.
Through personalised tuition, pupils benefit from lessons that focus on them. Their needs and learning styles are easily identified when tutoring. I aim to unlock the potential in every pupil and instil a sense of confidence and self-belief.
When tutoring online I use interactive strategies from a wide variety of resources. Lessons are tailored to children's interests and assessment strategies can identify learning gaps to be addressed. The personalised nature of working as a tutor makes the process of educating enjoyable for me and pupils alike.
